This bilingual book was written during the Coronavirus lockdown that began in late March 2020 by Richard Suggett, Senior Investigator (Historic Buildings) at the Royal Commission.

As some places of worship may never reopen, this book charts a history of the parish church through painted images, texts and decoration.  Also discussed is the great late-medieval rebuilding of parish churches in Wales and the nature and roles of painted screens and painted walls within these refurnished churches, with case-studies of the extraordinary painted interiors at Llancarfan and Llandeilo Talybont.

Historic images have been supplied by the National Library of Wales, Amgueddfa Cymru–National Museum Wales, and Cadw.  In all, there are 275 stunning images, many never published before.
