The slate quarries of Wales/Chwareli'r Gogledd fridge magnet
Durable glossy fridge magnet with a design which recognises the slate industry in Wales. This industry, where Welsh was the language spoken, developed in the 18th century and peaked during the latter half of the 19th century, when it dominated the economy of north-west Wales. Nowadays, slate is no longer produced on a large scale, owing among other things to the growth in the use of roofing tiles rather than slates.
The influence of the quarrying way of life can be felt in the literature of Wales, for instance in the work of Kate Roberts.
